What’s the difference between balayage and highlights?
Balayage is a hand-painted technique that creates a softer, more natural, lived-in blonde with seamless grow-out. Some guests receive a balayage up to 4 times a year and others come in once a year. It is a very natural and easy to maintain look. Traditional highlights (foils) typically are to the root and offer a more uniform look with less natural hair at the root.
How often should I book a blonding appointment?
Most blonding guests visit every 8–16 weeks, depending on the technique, desired brightness, and maintenance level. Balayage typically allows for longer time between appointments than foils. A great way to maintain the balayage in between sessions is to schedule a face frame appointment around the 8-12 week mark. A face frame helps to bright the balayage around the face and refresh the whole look.
Do blonding services include a toner?
Yes. Blonding services include toning to customize shade, balance warmth, and enhance shine. Toner refresh appointments are also available between full blonding sessions.
Is blonding damaging to my hair?
When done correctly, blonding can be safe and healthy. At Hilda Hair, every blonding service includes a complimentary K18 molecular repair treatment to strengthen hair, reduce breakage, and maintain overall hair health.
Which blonding service should I book if I’m not sure?
If you’re really unsure of what service to book, please book a complimentary consultation. Please bring 2-4 pictures of your desired look with you, and any specific requests. We will help you reach the look you desire, offer a price quote and share maintenance tips.
How do I maintain my blonde between appointments?
We recommend returning for a toner for a refresh in between sessions. Toners typically last 4 - 6 weeks and then start to wash out. To prolong the life of your toner use professional color safe shampoos and conditioners, wash hair as infrequently as possible for your liking, and try to shower with warm, not hot, water. Additionally, you'll want to maintain the integrity of your hair with conditioning treatments at home weekly, and in salon every 4-6 weeks. K18 is an excellent choice and one we offer in house.
